SUMMARY:Photonics for Net Zero
DESCRIPTION:Hear from leaders exploring how photonics can make a major contribution to achieving net zero though increasing green-power generation\, reducing energy consumption\, and reducing waste. With achieving net zero one of the biggest challenges of the 21st century\, photonics will play an increasingly central role in reducing our emissions and increasing our resource and energy efficiency.\n\n \n\nThis free Webinar\, hosted by SPIE online\, will feature an 10 minute presentations from world authorities on the diverse ways photonics impacts net zero and supports sustainability. Presentations will be followed by a Q&A session taking questions from the global audience and exploring unifying theme chaired by the Photonics Leadership Group Chief Executive John Lincoln.\n\n \n\nJoin us 4pm UK time\, 5pm Eu\, 8am Pacific\, 11 Eastern\, Wednesday 20 April 2020\n\n \n\nMeet the speakers:\n\n \n\n Simon Andrews\, Fraunhofer UK Research\n Vincent Zeng\, Meta\n Vipul Bhatt\, II-VI Incorporated\n Karin Hinzer\, University of Ottawa\n Martin Strassburg\, ams-OSRAM International GmbH\n\npl

SUMMARY:Towards a European Strategy on Quantum Photonics Integrated Circuits- Online Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Photonic Integration in general and Quantum Photonic Integrated Circuits (QPICs) in particular are considered as an enabler for quantum technology\, and conversely quantum technology is regarded as a major emerging market for photonic integration. \nIn order to profit from the European Quantum Flagship and the Photonics21 ETP that are actively supporting these fields in Europe\, joint efforts are needed to gain technological leadership and stimulate job creation. \nIn this context\, a joint Focus Group from both initiatives has been formed\, with the general goals of making QPICs a European priority and setting up a European QPIC infrastructure on the longer term. A position paper from this Focus Group that elaborates the required efforts in more detail is currently under preparation. This position paper will be used to build the basis for future cooperation of projects from both areas\, better access to infrastructure and joint funding activities of both initiatives. \nThe Focus Group is organizing a joint online workshop “Towards a European Strategy on Quantum Photonics Integrated Circuits”\, which aims on the one hand at presenting and discussing the preliminary version of the position paper and further elaborating the general goals of the joint efforts\, and\, on the other hand\, at bringing together and showcasing research projects working on QPICs stemming from different funding initiatives.
