STFC’s mission is to deliver world-leading national and international research and innovation capabilities and, through those, discover the secrets of the Universe. STFC supports research in astronomy, particle physics and nuclear science, and operates world-class state of the art research facilities (Lasers, X-rays, Neutrons) for the UK across the whole spectrum of science disciplines and sectors such as defense, space, life sciences and energy. Our campuses and sites also support businesses of all sizes from start ups through our Business Incubation Centers to multinational companies.

Photonics is embedded in much of what we do at STFC through lasers, detectors, optical systems and much more.
