The UK photonics industry had an average productivity, measured in gross value added to the economy per photonics employee of £76,400 in 2018. As published in 2019, this is 14% higher than the average productivity in UK manufacturing. But how do different firms compare?
The latest analysis of data by the PLG shows the distribution of productivity in the UK photonics industry for firms employing more than 10 people and producing more than 20% photonics.
The asymmetrical distribution shows there are many UK photonics firms with substantially higher productivity, with 15% of firms contributing over £100,000 per photonics employee to the economy
