UK photonics has consistently out performed overall UK manufacturing growth over the last 6 years.
Further analysis of the latest data shows the UK Photonics industry has been growing at more than 4.3% year-on-year since the first quantitative sizing of the industry in 2013. UK photonics has grown four times faster than overall UK manufacturing over the same time period*, reflecting the ever increasing importance of photonics in modern society.
Now generating £13.5 billion output, UK photonics produced an additional £2.4 billion of output in 2018 over and above that which would have produced had photonics grown at the same rate as general UK manufacturing over the same time period.
